Batts Named ECPS Director of Secondary Education

  TARBORO, NC – Edgecombe County Public Schools (ECPS) recently named Robert Batts as Director of Secondary Education. Batts joins the district office staff after serving as principal at Tarboro High School for the past two years. He also previously served as the North Edgecombe High School principal.

"Mr. Batts has been an exceptional instructional leader at two of our traditional high schools. I am looking forward to the leadership he will provide our high school principals as well as the value he will add to our district team,” said ECPS Superintendent John Farrelly.

"I am beyond excited to join the ECPS Curriculum and Instruction team while serving as Director of Secondary Education.  My desire is to collaborate with the high school instructional teams as we focus on continuous improvement for all students,” said Batts.   “I aspire to support our school leaders in establishing unique school cultures and educational programs conducive to 21st century teaching and learning."

Batts attended East Carolina University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education specializing in English and History. He also earned a Master of School Administration degree and licensure certifications from East Carolina University.

Prior to joining ECPS, he was a middle school teacher in Wilson County, where he was recognized as his school’s Teacher of the Year in 2008.  He also previously served as an assistant principal and interim principal with Nash Rocky Mount Public Schools.
