Amplify ECPS Initiative Kicks Off

Ampify ECPS is a district initiative aimed at empowering teachers to be leaders in their classroom, as well as empowering them to encourage other teachers to be leaders as they work to prepare students to be globally competitive. Through a partnership with North Carolina State University's Friday Institute, teams of teachers from each school will receive ongoing professional development to prepare them to implement innovative digital teaching and learning practices in their classrooms.

“Amplify ECPS is not about technology. It is about preparing our students for the world they live in,” said Matthew Mayo, ECPS Director of Technology.

Teams of teachers from each school will meet three times this school year to learn from Dr. Lisa Hervey, Senior Research Scholar with the Friday Institute and a Teaching Professor in the College of Education at North Carolina State University.

“We have to make learning look like kids live. Teaching should look different because the world is different,” said Dr. Hervey. “We want to prepare every single student in Edgecombe County Public Schools to take their place in the world as it exists. They deserve the future we should prepare them for.”

“Amplify ECPS benefits all ECPS teachers and students. After each professional development session, Amplify team members will share what they learned with teachers at their school during staff meetings and professional learning communities. We are also planning our second annual Amplify ECPS day for the spring,” added Mayo.
