Walking the Halls of ECPS
October 19, 2023
Congratulations to Martin Millennium Academy Principal Dr. Kelly Anne Mudd - the 2023-2024 ECPS Principal of the Year!
Lisa McElwee, Digital Teaching and Learning Specialist, visited Mrs. Winner’s fifth-grade class at G.W. Bulluck Elementary School to discuss character traits and allow students to create with Pixton, a comic and avatar maker. Students created a slide show about themselves and their characteristics.
In September, six of Ms. Clayton's music students at G.W. Carver Elementary School auditioned for the North Carolina Honors Chorus, a very prestigious honor in which 175 singers are chosen from across the state. These students learned a very difficult song in a foreign language and submitted recordings to a selection committee. Karsyn Letchworth was selected and will perform with the Honors Chorus next month in Winston-Salem.
Superintendent Dr. Andy Bryan convened with our School-Based Teachers of the Year in an empowering Teacher Advisory Committee meeting this week. Their mission? To exchange innovative ideas, offer invaluable feedback on important matters shaping our educational landscape, and join forces to make ECPS even better!
Every teacher brought their distinctive and invaluable perspective to the table. As a team, they share a common goal - to ensure an exceptional educational experience for every single one of our students!
Cadets from North Edgecombe High School and Tarboro High School recently visited the East Carolina University Air Force ROTC Program to learn more about opportunities designed to prepare men and women to become Air Force and Space Force officers while completing an undergraduate, graduate, or other professional degree programs at ECU.
Edgecombe Early College High School teacher Leigh Ann Webb coordinated an engaging experience for the school's Car Club participants with Mr. Stephen Dupree from Edgecombe Community College's automotive department. Students participated in a competitive event to disassemble an engine!
Students in Mr. Williams' class at West Edgecombe Middle School were immersed in the field of technology as they learned about the various components of a PC. Students were tasked with not only taking apart and labeling the parts, but also putting it back together so that it functioned properly.
Students at the Edge Academy of Health Sciences recently enjoyed their first "Passion Friday," with a range of activities including board games, mind games, a "Just Dance" session, puppet making, horror-themed relaxation, and physical fitness.
Phillips Middle School recently hosted their first "Lunch and Literacy" event, supporting their school-wide Title I and Reading goal of increasing proficiency in every classroom for every student. Students had the opportunity to share and model effective literacy strategies. Parents provided feedback on strategies they need to support and encourage reading at home.
Tarboro High School's own alumnus and dedicated Wal-Mart employee, Malcolm Speller, recently returned to his alma mater to share valuable information with students in the Career Management and Financial Planning classes.
Mr. Hurdle worked with sixth-grade students at Martin Millennium Academy to support math in science class! Students used mathematical concepts from their math class to solve science problems, learning how all subjects connect in the real world.
