Bridges named finalist for Educational Leadership Award

The WE Are LEADing Award recognizes a current and accomplished female leader in a school or district. This person has provided mentorship, guidance, and support to other leaders. She has encouraged the development of future and current leaders and has courageously forged the way for others in educational leadership. Over 85 nominations were received from many areas in the Southeast, including NC, SC, GA, AL, and TN, as well as AZ. A committee of retired superintendents independently selected the finalists and will meet them in person at the conference before making a final decision on the winner.

This is the first award of its kind and was developed by WE LEAD (Women in Educational Leadership) to honor and celebrate the contributions of women in the field of education. WE LEAD was created by Dr. Lillie Cox, a former NC superintendent and school leader. The organization is holding its third annual conference this year to support the development of women as leaders. The goal of WE LEAD is to increase the number of females who successfully obtain executive positions in educational leadership and positively impact student achievement and school and district culture by retaining those positions.

“Even though most K-12 classroom teachers are female, the superintendent’s office is primarily held by men. This conference was created to encourage and support women along their leadership journey as educational leaders and to stand by their side when they obtain those positions,” said Cox.
