ECPS Celebrates School Bus Driver Appreciation Week

“Our school bus drivers are an essential part of the education system in Edgecombe County,” said David Coker, ECPS Director of Transportation. “School Bus Appreciation Week is an opportunity to thank them for safely transporting our students each day, and also for serving as positive role models to them.”

According to the National Academy of Sciences and the U.S. Department of Transportation, school buses are the safest form of transportation for transporting children to and from school.

The school bus system is the largest transportation system in the United States. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, more than 750,000 North Carolina students board over 13,000 school buses each day. Their drivers must complete rigorous training and be certified to drive a bus.

Each day over 4100 students riding 84 buses travel 6259 miles per day on ECPS school buses.

Parents, teachers and children are encouraged to visit the American School Bus Council's website to share stories about their favorite bus drivers and find a variety of other resources for honoring drivers.
