Black Americans have always shaped our history and culture — making our nation so much stronger and better. From world-renowned achievements advancing science and culture to lesser-known contributions building our families and communities, this legacy continues to inspire people around the globe.
Originally inspired by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, a prominent historian and scholar, this year’s Black History Month is a special one. It marks the 100th anniversary of the first Black history commemoration, a weeklong celebration sponsored by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History in February 1926 to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
As we honor this milestone, let’s continue working together to create a better future.
