Schoolnet Upgrade Delayed

Pearson, the vendor for Schoolnet, has just informed DPI of a problem with Scan-It software with version 21.0 that needs to be corrected prior to the release of the upgrade.

The upgrade is now planned to begin at 5pm, Friday, July 26th. This upgrade involves the reorganization of all assessment items into true item banks, which will take longer than the normal upgrade process. Schoolnet will be unavailable during the upgrade process. Pearson anticipates the upgrade will be completed by 6am on Monday, July 29th. A communication will be sent as soon as the upgrade is complete and the system is available.

For additional information about the new features available in version 21.0, please view the release notes and a webinar recording from Pearson.

We will discuss the updates in 21.0 at length during our back to school Home Base Meet-Ups in August. If you are the Schoolnet admin for your district or charter, we would love to have you at Meet-Ups, please see the invitation for more information.

Thank you for sharing this information with your staff. If you have any questions, please reach out to Pam Batchelor at pamela.batchelor@dpi.nc.gov

End Of Year Processing

End of Year processing begins Friday, June 28th at 5pm EDT. During this time, all data transfers/nightly processes from PowerSchool to Schoolnet are suspended. Once PowerSchool has completed processing and Schoolnet has successfully synced with 2019-2020 data from PowerSchool, access will be restored. We expect this to be completed no later than Monday, July 8th. A message will be sent once Schoolnet is ready for use.

Once EOY is complete, you may notice some changes in how Schoolnet looks.

This is because of the rollover to the 2019-2020 year but classes have not yet begun in PowerSchool. Below is a summary of the changes you may see in Schoolnet.

Reporting

Reporting Dashboard

The dashboard is populated with benchmark test data from previous year.

The dashboard is empty until after the first benchmark test has results loaded. It is possible to show this functionality on a generic training site.

Reporting

Saved Report Bank Custom and Pre-Formatted reports

Reports will reflect data from previous school year.

Depending on how reports were built, they may or may not reflect current assignment and contain students. To check a report, run it and click either ’Student set details’ or ‘Selection Details’ to see what enrollment parameter was used. In both Pre-Formatted and Custom Reports, the ‘Current Enrollment’ student set filter will not contain any students prior to the first day of school. As an alternative, the ‘Total Enrollment’ filter can be used.

Reporting

Reporting Dashboard Any reports with Course/ Section data Reporting

Course/section reports reflect assignments from the previous school year.

Prior to the first day of school, course/section reports must be built with the ‘Total Enrollment’ filter rather than ‘Current Enrollment.’

The grade/mark analysis should be run on prior year sections until after the first marking period.

Reporting

Any reports with Current Enrollment Filter

If after the last day of school, current enrollment is zero.

If it is prior to the first day of school, current enrollment is zero.

KPI

KPIs

KPIs are populated from SIS/Test data from previous year.

KPIs are not populated with any enrollment data until first day of school.

Classrooms

Lesson Planner

Lessons can only be scheduled for the current school year, so until rollover, it is not possible to schedule for the upcoming school year.

Although you can’t schedule lessons until after rollover, you can prior to the first day of school.

Assessment

Scheduling Tests

Although you can build items and tests, the actual scheduling must wait until you are within the current school year.

Assigning tests to actual students will be more straightforward after the first day of school as only ‘current students’ are used in the eligibility calculations.

My Schoolnet

General

Works as before.

No implications.

Additionally, during the summer, Pearson has disabled the student workspaces and upcoming assignments widgets on the student homepage in an effort to prevent student schedules to be visible. It may still be possible for student to view these widgets if they have a stored link in their browser. There was a patch applied to prevent this but we do not have a way to test it until the rollover happens. The student workspaces and upcoming assignments widgets will be restored to the student page on August 19th.

Summer Schoolnet Updates

Dear Schoolnet Admins,

We know that summertime is upon us and the Home Base Team wanted to send out a few reminders before the summer fun begins.

  • The Schoolnet Training Site will be unavailable starting at 5pm Today until July 1st. During this time, the training site will be refreshed and upgraded to Schoolnet 21.0. There is a chance that training site logins may change, if this occurs, we will send out new credentials to admins as soon as possible. Thank you to those who provided feedback on the training site upgrade options in our Google Group.
  • Today is the last day to opt-in to Schoolnet for 2019-2020. Please remember that opt-in is a yearly process and your finance officer or charter school administrator is the only person who can complete the opt-in process. Access to Schoolnet will end on July 1st for those who do not opt-in.

Schoolnet 21.0 is coming this summer!

We have tentatively scheduled the install of 21.0 for late July. Upgrade testing will begin next week and further communication with an exact date will be sent once upgrade testing is complete.

Two important upgrade impacts:

1. A new version of Scan-It software is required with the upgrade.Windows 10 machines have a security feature that blocks the auto update feature of Scan-It. For machines running Windows 10, you will need to download the latest version of Scan-It manually.

2. Previously printed Scan-It answer sheets will NOT scan with the new version.

For more information about the changes in version 21.0, please view the release notes and/or watch this recorded Pearson webinar: bit.ly/schoolnet21

Please let the Home Base Team know if you have any questions!

Happy Summer!
